An MLP OC I came up with last month: the alicorn in charge of maintaining the cycle of death and regrowth in the face of a society that not only controls its entire ecosystem, but also possesses magic powerful enough to manipulate time.
She isn't part of the governmental structure of Equestria, although she is an ally to the royal family, and prefers to work in solitude much of the time. Her duties include insuring that wildfires happen often enough to maintain a healthy ecosystem, making sure things grow back properly after natural disasters, keeping ponies from figuring out immortality spells, and repeatedly explaining that yes, carnivores are necessary.
She doesn't have a name yet because there are no synonyms for "decay" with positive connotations. I'd like to have her show up in Falchron at some point.
I can Totally see a Conversation Happening With this Pony About Why There Aren't Vegan Lions. Probably Start out like Like: "Why Aren't There Vegan Lions? I'm Just saying, I think It would be a Lot Better If we Taught Lions how to be Vegan. Pls?"
