The Falconry Chronicles: Page 20

<Previous | First | Next>

I have absolutely no idea how I used to do these in one week. I've been actively working on this for a month straight

Back to entirely digital, but not to color. How's the shading working? I'm not 100% sure on it.

What do you think about the non-colored style? It's a lot easier for me, and I like how it looks, so I think I might stick to it.

My tablet charger broke, so I had to draw this on real paper and color it with a mouse. I like how it turned out though; I might stick to traditional inking even once I get a new charger.

16 pages in my first year of drawing comics isn't bad, especially considering I moved and injured my hand in that time. We'll be back in January, assuming nothing drastic happens. (It's 2020, I'm not ruling anything out.)

Boy has it been a while, but we are back!

I'm really sorry it took so long--moving absolutely trashed my ability to keep a schedule, apparently--but I did get a lot of behind-the-scenes work done in the interim. There's a really solid outline now, and I did a lot of design work on the town and the background characters who live in it. And look, I learned to draw smoke better, apparently!

I can't promise we'll go back to a consistent schedule, but I will try to take less than three months on the next page. :P

*Insert obligatory coronavirus joke*

And we are back in business, baby! Hopefully on the alternate Fridays schedule again, but my wrist still hurts and I've gotta revise some layouts before I can draw the next page, so we'll see.

Fun fact: I nearly managed to post this without the first speech bubble. I have no idea how.

For those of you who don't know, since I think I have some siblings who are less familiar with Doctor Who lore than I am, Gallifrey's sky is orange. (Or it is when the writers aren't cowards)

IMPORTANT SCHEDULE-RELATED UPDATE: I'm moving, apparently! Which is great news, but it means that for the rest of the month I'm not going to have a lot of time for drawing, and especially not for the long, focused drawing sessions that these comic pages require. And since I never did manage to rebuild my backlog, that means I won't be able to update for the rest of the month. Probably don't expect a new page until July 7th, at the earliest.

EDIT: July 10th, actually. The 7th is a Tuesday and I have no idea why I picked that date.

I am so excited to finally get to draw the main character you have no idea

Wait, it is Friday, right?? I cannot keep track of time anymore

So, uh...I'm starting to think my previous ability to churn out a page a week must have been fueled by novelty and a need to distract myself from coronavirus. And things are probably about to get real busy around here, so...I think I'm going to switch the release schedule to every other week. I'll still be trying to finish a page every week, but it'll be less stressful this way.

Tl;dr new update schedule is every other Friday

Alright, now back to regularly scheduled pages! I almost forgot to post this because I can't keep track of the days of the week anymore.

I'm really not happy with this one...but I've already spent too long on it and it completely defeats the purpose of taking time to rebuild my backlog if I spend the whole two weeks redoing one page over and over.

Grass is my nemesis now.

*Dazed look* Is...is it done? Huh?

Anyway, I'm not going to post a page next week. It turns out I really do need at least one page of backlog for my own sanity, and hopefully this will give me a chance to build that back up, so that I don't have to do things like force myself through most of the linework and all of the coloring in one day.

Thank goodness this page is dialogue-free, or I definitely wouldn't have gotten it out on time. As it is...*faints*

The Falconry Chronicles: Page 8

I can't believe this got done on time. Normally I'm working a page ahead of schedule, but I got sick last week and wiped out my whole backlog, and this page was...inexplicably hard to get done. Hopefully the next couple go fast so I can restore my backlog....

There are times when having a background in novel writing is not a boon. Fitting all that dialogue was a PAIN. I'd say I'd do better in the future, but the Falconress has an unfortunate tendency towards polysyllabism D:

Not sure I'm entirely happy with the speech bubble layout still, but I'm sick and don't have the energy to mess with it, so it'll have to do.

Thank goodness, this is the last page where I have to draw humans. Also thank goodness for the ability to copy and paste stars.

Vwoorp....

Boy, these are interesting times, huh? Hope everyone's doing well in relative isolation, and also washing their hands lots.

Current plan with these is to upload a page every Friday. We'll see if I can maintain that pace.

Here we go.

Page 1 of that project I mentioned...Friday the 13th seems like an auspicious date to start something, right?

Introducing The Falconry Chronicles, the Doctor Who/My Little Pony crossover fancomic I've been plotting off and on since I was ten. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
